Cooking Tip: Chop Your Food Smaller
Oct 23, 2018
Here in the gym October is a month where we emphasize cooking more of your own food. Cooking your own food is one of the most important habits for Abundant Health.
Recently I was watching a documentary on Netflix called "Cooked." It is based on the book by author Michael Pollan. On the show he says that the primary reason we cook food is so that we don't have to chew as much. Food scientists have known this for a long time. They are constantly looking for ways to improve foods so that we don't have to chew as much because they knew it enhances texture and flavor.
An easy tip that you can start applying to many recipes is to start chopping your food into smaller pieces. This enhances texture, flavor, and ease of digestion.
For example, you could take a chicken breast and chop it into tiny little pieces or cut your vegetables into smaller pieces. Think of the difference between a big chunk of tomato on your salad vs pico de gallo which is chopped much finer. This is also another reason many top chefs turn things into purees or sauces.
Chopping your food into smaller pieces will take a little bit of extra time but it can make a big difference.
