The Principle of the Beginning and The End
Jun 30, 2017
Playing baseball in college I was on a team that was struggling to score runs. Our head coach and hitting coach had butted heads and decided to part ways leaving us without a hitting coach. Finally, our head coach begged the hitting coach to return. The hitting coach was one of the best around and we were struggling. The hitting coach tutored our hitters the next day for an hour and the following day we scored 10 runs. We continued to pile on the runs and finished the season as conference champions and the best hitting team in the state of California. So what did the hitting coach impart to our hitters in that one hour that changed everything?
One of the things he always stressed was the beginning and end of the swing. He would repeat over and over that if the beginning and the end of the swing were in the right place that everything in the middle would be good. I have found this to be true in just about every area of life. This is actually a Biblical principle as Jesus refers to himself as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. So how do you apply this to your life? Below are some examples for your health.
In your workouts I want you to emphasize the beginning by doing mobility exercises to open the channels of the body. An open body allows information to enter and instruct your cells what to do. Finish your workouts with speed and power. Speed and power close the cells after the information has entered and secures your results making sure that they last.
This can be applied to your daily routine as well. Developing a good morning and evening routine ensures that you are taking care of the beginning and end of your days. By providing your body a rhythm of good morning and evening routines you will find that your results accelerate and you accomplish more every day. In the morning you can open your mind and body by reading inspirational material, meditation, prayer, stretching, movement etc. In the evening it is time to close the day out and seal in everything you did. This is a good time to evaluate your day and plan for the next one.
This applies to your mindset as well. Your thoughts produce chemical changes in your body which can build or destroy health. Cultivating faith and gratitude are the beginning of a healthy mindset as they open the mind. Love seals in a healthy mindset at the end.
Your cells are all surrounded by a wall. Attached to these walls are receptors or gates that allow information to enter. Your body is relentlessly trying to deliver information to your cells. This information holds instructions for the cells. The cell gates must open to allow the information in and they must close to make sure the information is not lost. When the beginning and the end are right the cell receives the needed information and can produce health.
So where do you start?
Cultivating good morning and evening routines is the first place I would start. Opening your mind with gratitude and your body with stretching is a great way to start your day. At the end of the day evaluate how you did. Evaluate how well you loved, how productive you were, and make plans/adjustments for the next day. If you do this you will find that the middle of the day tends to take care of itself.
