Turn Impulse Into Action
Jul 07, 2017
When I was in college one of my coaches would say "it's not a compliment if someone says you have potential. It just means you haven't done anything yet."
The cells in your body contain action potential. This is energy waiting to be converted into action or movement. Impulses are what cause this action potential to be converted into something useful. Converting this potential into action is an all or nothing event. Either it fires or it does not. A decision must be made by the body to either take action or not.
In a similar way you have tremendous potential inside of you but it must be converted into action. So how do you grab hold of your potential and activate what is inside of you? Your mind has impulses to take action all the time just like your cells do. In your health you may get the impulse to eat better, exercise, or stretch. In other areas you may get the impulse to spend time with your spouse, connect with your kids, or start saving money. When the impulse arrives and the emotion is there to do something you know you should be doing, it is time to act.
If you wait because it is inconvenient, not the right time, or there is some kind of fear holding you back you will find that the impulse passes. By practicing the habit of taking action on your good impulses you will begin to become more disciplined and build momentum. This disciplined practice will begin to generate compound interest for you. The little actions you take consistently will generate very high returns.
When the impulse arrives to do something good this week turn it into action.
