Weather Changes and Joint Pain
Oct 19, 2018
Here is Virginia we had a major drop in temperature in the last week. Whenever there is a major change in weather it is common to hear people say that their joints hurt or that they can feel it in their joints. So what can you do to remedy this?
We had about a 20 degree change in temperature in one day here in Virginia, which also means a big change in the air pressure. When temperature changes the air pressure usually changes. In this case it usually means a drop in pressure.
Your body has an internal pressure, in fact it needs this pressure. For example, you have a blood pressure but if your blood pressure is zero you are not living any more. When there are changes in the air pressure it can cause changes in the internal pressure in your body, and slightly disrupt the homeostasis.
A while back I was researching the impact that pressure has on our bodies, especially rapid changes in pressure, which are hard on the body. My research led me to learning about scuba divers because when they ascend and descend in the water they undergo a change in pressure. Some of the side effects from rapid changes in pressure include joint pain, specifically elbow pain. If you have noticed some elbow pain recently it may be due to the change in air pressure.
So how do you remedy this?
One of my goals is to help you know how to take care of your body and make adjustment as needed so that you have Abundant Health.
In my book Cracking Heaven's Code I discuss the different ways that foods, exercise, etc impact on the body and the different messages they send. One of the messages that is sent to the body through food or exercise is to increase pressure and heat in the body. Each message is tied to a number. The message for increased pressure is code number 6, which is related to the color red.
If there is a rapid drop in temperature and you are having joint pain one of the ways you can remedy this is with nutrition. Any red foods such as tomatoes, red peppers, or even red meat can help to increase the amount of pressure in your body, and if they are cooked even better, because cooking amplifies the message. So for example, you could eat red marinara sauce, chili, or a steak and it would help to increase the pressure in your body and hopefully make your joints feel better.
You could also approach this with exercise. Lifting weights with a slower tempo also serves to send the signal to increase the internal pressure in the body. So for example, you could do your normal lifting but add in a few sets of a slower tempo work to bump up the pressure. If the pressure in your body is to high you can reverse it by focusing on increasing workload at a normal to faster tempo in your workouts and by getting enough water and salt.
