What are you swinging at?

Recently I was giving a baseball hitting lesson.
The kid I was coaching started the session by telling me that he hit a homerun in his last game and almost hit 2, which at his age is a pretty good accomplishment.
His dad told me that the other teams coach wanted to know what he had been doing.
He has been working on his swing quite a bit but in our last session we added something new.
We gave him a plan.
I gave him the plan I have given hundreds of hitters through the years.
I told him before he was to hit the ball he needed to know exactly what pitch he wanted to hit.
I told him the worst mistake he can make is to swing just because it is a strike.
He needed to know exactly what he was looking for and if the pitch wasn't the one he was looking for then he needed to take it and not swing.
This was the source of his new power.
I have seen this over and over that when you narrow down your focus and eliminate all the things you don't want that power goes up instantly and exponentially.
As soon as we gave him the plan his power jumped up immediately because now he could focus all of his energy into one area and be on the offensive verses trying to be defensive and hit everything.
This has applications to every area of your life, health and fitness being one of them.
Get a plan and focus and you will be amazed at what happens.
One of the reasons for this is that when you know what you are looking for everything that is not that is immediately visible.
Whenever we do this with hitters they always say it is like the game slows down.
You can slow down time be increasing your focus and eliminating everything else.
